Japanology B: Japanese Warriors
and Warrior Spirit

​​Course Description
When people of the world consider Japan, they naturally see warrior culture as one of the country’s strongest influences. Indeed, even some Japanese have argued that the spirit of the bushi is the basic philosophy of the Japanese people. This course examines the stories of warriors, both historical and legendary, to better understand their lessons with regard to how people of this country see themselves and the world. 
 
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, the student will be able to describe key situations in Japanese history and will be able to articulate various philosophies of Japanese warriors.
