Every once in while, life presents you with things that cause hope to well up. This week, as I contemplate some video presentations of my own, I encountered two resources that are positively wonderful and are destined to greatly change lives for the better.
The first is the outstanding work being done by the Kahn Academy. Using a very simple but direct lecturing technique conducted in 10 minute videos, Prof. Kahn and associates have created a fantastic series of curriculums designed for everyone from elementary school students to working professionals seeking additional training. Indeed, Khan has produced no less than 3000 of these videos all by himself.
What is especially good is that many lessons include interactive quizzing to reinforce what you have learned immediately. Research has shown that such timely testing greatly improves retention, and the exercises add valuable experiential components. Many lessons are being translated into a number of languages. The online academy claims, quite convincingly, that they are teaching more individuals per dollar spent than anyone in the world.
I took their lesson on statistics, and it was outstanding. Likewise, having perused their resources on finance and economics, I can say it is of the highest quality. Please check it out and consider what resources might be helpful to you or those close to you.
Viva la Kahn-Sensei!

What Prof. Kahn is doing to encourage intellectual development, Canada's Dr. Mike Evens is doing to encourage physical health and well-being. The above video is a wonderful introduction to the greatest medicine in the world. It is a topic covered a bit on my site here as well. The presentation is steeped in legitimate academic research and yet is fun and very easy to understand. Dr. Evens has proven himself to be a rousing force for positive change.

Let's face it... there is a lot of junk on the Internet. Sometimes it is easy to become skeptical about the ability of cyberspace to be a vehicle of positive change.
But these two geniuses are likely to restore a bit of your faith in the goodness of humankind and the power of worldwide computer-based communication.
